Rodney Buckham, Manager

The Building and Inspection Division ensures that new construction and remodeling work is constructed in accordance with current building standards and enforces the City's property maintenance codes in relation to health and life safety issues.

CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION - (217) 431-2332

The Construction Inspection unit is responsible for the permitting and inspections of new construction and remodeling/renovation work carried out in the City.  This unit is also responsible for the registration and licensing of contractors wishing to do work within the City of Danville.  The duties of the inspectors in this unit include: explaining to developers the City’s Building Code requirements, reviewing and approving specific construction plans, issuing construction permits, and inspecting the work in progress to insure code compliance.  In 2006, this unit issued over 2,200 permits having a construction value of over $54 million.  Generally speaking it takes from 2 - 4 weeks to review a set of construction drawings before permits can be issued.  For more information on the activities requiring permits, permit fees, or permit applications please follow the links below.

PROPERTY MAINTENANCE INSPECTION - (217) 431-2274

Tracy Stebbins,  Neighborhood Services Coordinator

Nancy Larsen, Property Maintenance Secretary

The Property Maintenance Inspection Section (PMIS) responds to citizen complaints and City Council requests as well as various other reporting entities.  Inspection staff proactively conducts daily field inspections in order to enforce citywide ordinance compliance involving tall weeds/grass, abandoned vehicles, substandard housing, and illegal dumping of trash or garbage.  As part of these measures, warning letters are issued for non compliance matters and violators are given a certain timeframe in which to comply.  At this stage it is imperative that the violator either comply with the warning and abate the violation or contact the PMIS and discuss the issue. Upon the expiration of this timeframe the inspector will verify compliance or non compliance.  If compliance is achieved then no further enforcement actions will be taken.  However, if non compliance is evident then the violator will receive an administrative fine in the amount of $100.  This fine must be paid within five days, as well as complete compliance of the city ordinance in violation.  If the violator refuses to pay or comply then the case will be forwarded to the City Attorney for prosecution.  At this juncture the City Attorney will issue a notice to appear in court.
