CITY OF DANVILLE, ILLINOIS
City of Danville takes
proactive approach to unsightly residences.
Neighbors cheered as City employees, armed with dump trucks and a backhoe,
spent about 12 hours removing debris from an illegal junkyard in the city. A
court order allowed the city cleanup on Harmon street and requires the
property owner to maintain the site to comply with city ordinances. A
violation means contempt of court, which could include jail time. If the
problem isn’t resolved, the city can clean up the property immediately and
bill property owners. The first cleanup required about 12 hours at the
cost of $250 per hour, not including dumping fees.
The neighbors had attempted to have something done about the property for
about 10 years. The property was littered with 20 bicycles, multiple junk
cars, 2 boats, 3 swing sets, old oil, a swimming pool with stagnant water
that attracted mosquitoes, a makeshift storage shed, engine blocks, broken
machinery, old tires, vinyl siding, pieces of metal, glass and wood, and
other debris until the city started the cleanup.
City of Danville officials plan continue this proactive approach by
conducting one major cleanup per month.
