EXTRA BOARD BUS DRIVER -
Application
STARTING PAY: $9.77 PAY RANGE: $9.77- 13.96 per hour by 4th yr +
longevity increases after 5th yr.
SCOPE OF WORK: A City Bus Driver is responsible for the safe, courteous, and
reliable operation of City owned passenger vehicles (buses) as well as the
safety of the general public. The position of extra board driver is on-call
and is guaranteed 23 hours per week when there are two extra board drivers
on staff. Most of the time the extra board driver receives 30 hours or more
depending upon full-time drivers’ vacations and leave usage. The Extra Board
Driver will also service and clean buses, and do custodial work when regular
personnel are not available. Position is represented by the Municipal
Workers Union Local #703 and subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Must be 21 years of age and hold an Illinois
Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements
or attain one within 30 days. Must have a good driving record and reliable
work experience. Ability to make quick and accurate decisions and have good
communication and interpersonal skills.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum education requirement is a High School Diploma or
equivalent. Preference given to individuals with a Commercial Drivers
License and experienced in driving commercial vehicles.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: All city employees must live in Illinois within 5
miles of the corporate city limits within 6 months of successful completion
of probationary period.
